Important before you order
The right finish starts before installation
Paste the Wall and Peel & Stick require different wall preparation and installation skills. Read the sections that apply to your order before you book an installer.
Choose the right wallpaper type
Paste the Wall Smooth Matte
Paste is applied to the wall. It suits larger projects and properly prepared smooth or lightly textured interior walls. For the best finish, use an experienced traditional wallpaper installer.
Peel & Stick
Self-adhesive and installed without paste. It is for smooth interior surfaces only and is not suitable for textured walls. It requires the specialised wall preparation below.
Prepare your wall correctly
For Peel & Stick
- The wall must be smooth, clean, dry and painted for at least 30 days.
- Apply three coats of a purpose-built self-adhesive prep coat in satin or semi-gloss, not low sheen.
- Allow the prep coat to cure for 24 hours, then test your sample on the actual wall.
For Paste the Wall
- Fill and sand defects so the wall is clean, smooth, dry and evenly coloured.
- Seal raw plasterboard, drywall or concrete and prime porous or patched areas.
- Allow fresh paint to cure for at least 30 days before installation.
Peel & Stick prep coats by country
Standard paint primer and standard wallpaper primer are not suitable. Use one of these purpose-built options, finished in satin or semi-gloss, not low sheen.

Book a specialist with proven experience installing self-adhesive wallpaper, self-adhesive murals or architectural film. Confirm this before booking.
Peel & Stick instructionsWhichever type you choose, your installer must read and follow the supplied Olive et Oriel installation guide before starting. Avoid hard rubber tools, excessive pressure and rubbing.
Check if you need Type II commercial vinyl
Hospitality, healthcare, retail, office and other high-traffic projects may require a specified commercial wallcovering rather than residential wallpaper. Our 20oz Type II commercial vinyl has a durable vinyl face, poly-cotton Osnaburg backing and mould and mildew inhibitors, with custom designs and colour options available.
Residential Smooth Matte and Peel & Stick are not substitutes where a project specification requires Type II.
Final checks before we print
- Order a sample and check the colour, finish and adhesion in the room's real light.
- Enter your actual wall measurements. The calculator adds the required installation allowance.
- Order the whole project together. Later panels come from a different material batch and may not colour-match.
- Wallpaper is custom-made and non-returnable. Check every panel, panel number and print before installation begins.
- If anything looks wrong, stop before installing and contact help@oliveetoriel.com.
Wallpaper questions, answered
Will there be visible seams between panels?
Every wallpaper installation has panel joins. Ours are pre-trimmed 48cm butt joins with no overlap. On a smooth, correctly prepared wall, with the first panel perfectly plumb and every numbered panel aligned edge to edge, the joins should sit flat and become unobtrusive at normal viewing distance. Follow the supplied instructions for your wallpaper type. For Paste the Wall, use a clean, soft seam roller with light pressure only; hard pressure can squeeze out paste or mark the print. Peel & Stick is self-adhesive, so do not add paste or seam adhesive. If an edge lifts, stop and identify the wall-preparation or installation cause before attempting a repair.
Can renters use Peel & Stick wallpaper?
Peel & Stick can suit renters because it is self-adhesive and repositionable during installation, but removal depends on the wall beneath it. It is suitable only for smooth, correctly prepared interior walls. Paint must be at least 30 days old, then the wall needs three coats of a purpose-built self-adhesive prep coat in satin or semi-gloss, not low sheen, cured for 24 hours. Read our wall preparation guide for exact product instructions. Get the property owner's approval and test an A$4.99 sample on the actual wall before ordering. We cannot guarantee damage-free removal because paint condition, wall preparation and the local surface are outside our control.
Do I need to add extra for trimming?
No - enter your actual wall size and we work out the coverage for you. Your quote includes the whole 48cm panels needed to cover your wall width plus trimming room at the sides, and we print the extra length for top and bottom trimming free of charge.
Will my wallpaper match the sample I ordered?
Samples are printed on the same presses, with the same inks, on the same substrates as full orders - what you see is what we print. One thing no manufacturer of a colour-based product can control: minor variation between batches of base stock. Even paint cannot be recolour-matched exactly across batches. That is why we print your entire wall as a single order, from one batch, in one run - and why it matters to order enough coverage for everything you plan to paper. Additional panels made later will come from a different batch and may vary slightly.
What does delivery cost outside Australia?
Full-wall wallpaper orders ship free worldwide, and we pay the import duties and taxes - the price you see at checkout is final. Samples ship for a flat A$6.95.
My wall is bigger than the calculator allows - can you still make it?
Yes. Walls beyond our instant-order sizes are quoted same-day as a custom project - email custom@oliveetoriel.com with your dimensions. We regularly print for commercial spaces, hotels and full hallway runs, and Type II commercial vinyl is available for high-traffic projects on request.
