The design

About this design

A formal dining room or a moody home office gains immediate depth with the structured grid of charcoal and silver woven wallpaper. Tightly interlaced horizontal and vertical strands create a highly tactile, basket-like surface across the wall. Deep charcoal grey threads form the primary ground, while bright metallic silver accents catch the light across the raised weave. The dense, uniform pattern reads as a sophisticated solid from a distance but reveals intricate textural variations up close, adding quiet luxury to bare walls. Pair the dark tones with polished chrome fixtures, crisp white linen drapery, and warm walnut furniture to balance the cool metallic highlights.

Our promise

We manufacture it. We stand behind it.

We own the manufacturing process on every Olive et Oriel wallcovering. Our grasscloth, sisal and paperweave is hand-woven exclusively for us by master artisans we work with directly - no middlemen, no dropshipping - weavers whose families have practised this craft for generations. Every roll is then checked and packed by our own team before it reaches you.

Because we control production from fibre to final check, colour can be customised for your project - talk to us about matching a wallcovering to your palette.

If a roll arrives damaged or faulty, we replace it. Talk to the people who actually stand behind your wallcovering: help@oliveetoriel.com.

Woven by hand, one roll at a time

Unlike our Australian-made printed wallpapers, our grasscloth, sisal, paperweave and bamboo wallcoverings are woven by hand through artisan makers whose families have worked these fibres for generations. Natural strands are combined and woven across a paper backing, so every roll carries its own texture, tone and spacing. No two rolls are identical, and the subtle variation between drops is the beauty of the product, not a fault.

How much should you order?

This product is sold in single rolls (91cm wide x 10m long) and is not suited to automatic calculators. Measure your wall, then have your grasscloth installer confirm the drops and roll count before ordering — seams sit visibly side by side as panels, and an experienced installer will plan the layout so the walls feel intentional. As a guide, divide your wall height into the roll length for drops per roll, and allow extra for trimming at the top and bottom of each drop.

Samples arrive as woven swatches

Because this is a hand-woven material, samples are cut swatches of the actual weave (approx. 18cm x 12cm) rather than a printed sample sheet. They are made for checking colour, texture and weave in your light and on your mood board. Colour varies naturally through every batch — your installer should always work from rolls of the same batch.

Installation & care

Grasscloth and sisal wallcoverings should be hung by an experienced wallcovering installer. Joins sit side by side as panels — a panelling effect is part of the finish, as these wallcoverings do not have a seamless pattern match. Pre-trimmed butt join. Care: dust lightly or use a very gentle light vacuum. Keep away from moisture and wet areas. Not washable.

Suitability & returns

Please ensure this product suits your location and wall based on the information on this page. Due to the custom nature of wallcoverings, we do not offer refunds, returns or exchanges for change of mind or incorrect choice — always purchase and review a sample first. If your order arrives damaged, contact us within 7 days and we will make it right.

Made to be yours

Because we work directly with our weavers and control the process from fibre to final check, colour can be customised for your project. Email help@oliveetoriel.com to talk through matching a wallcovering to your palette.

Before you order

One project. One dye lot.

Natural wallcoverings are woven and dyed in batches, called dye lots. Rolls from the same dye lot share the same tonal character; rolls from a later lot are made from new fibre and a new dye bath, so an exact match to your walls can never be guaranteed. Order every roll for your project in a single order — including a spare roll if your installer recommends one — so every wall is hung from the same lot.
