The design
About this design
Real cork, shaved into whisper-thin layers and pressed by hand over a toned backing, gives every wall a softly textured, one-of-a-kind finish. The dove grey & copper colourway carries the natural markings of the bark it came from, so no two rolls are ever alike. Sound-softening, warm to the touch and quietly luxurious, cork suits bedrooms, studies, powder rooms and feature walls that deserve something genuinely natural.
Our promise
We manufacture it. We stand behind it.
We own the manufacturing process on every Olive et Oriel wallcovering. Our natural cork is produced exclusively for us by makers we work with directly - no middlemen, no dropshipping - craftspeople who have worked natural bark for generations. Every roll is cut to order from stock-held master rolls, then checked and packed by our own team before it reaches you.
Because we control production from bark to final check, colour and backing can be customised for your project - talk to us about matching a cork to your palette.
If a roll arrives damaged or faulty, we replace it. Talk to the people who actually stand behind your wallcovering: help@oliveetoriel.com.
Real bark, shaved by hand
Cork wallcovering begins as the outer bark of the cork oak, stripped by hand and shaved into fine layers that are pressed over a toned backing. Harvesting takes only the bark — the tree itself stays standing and grows a new layer for future harvests. Every roll carries the genuine markings of the bark it came from, so no two rolls are ever alike.
How much should you order?
This product is sold in single rolls (91cm wide x 7.32 metres long) and is not suited to automatic calculators. Measure your wall, then have your installer confirm the drops and roll count before ordering. Cork hangs in vertical panels with visible butt joins — an experienced installer will plan the layout so the walls feel intentional. Allow extra for trimming at the top and bottom of each drop.
Samples arrive as cork swatches
Because this is a natural material, samples are cut swatches of the actual cork (approx. 18cm x 12cm) rather than a printed sample sheet. They are made for checking colour, texture and metallic detail in your light and on your mood board. Natural variation between the swatch and your rolls is part of the material's character.
Warm, quiet walls
Cork is naturally warm to the touch and softens sound in a room, which is why designers reach for it in bedrooms, studies, media rooms and restaurants. The surface has a soft natural sheen that catches raking light, and metallic-backed colourways reveal glints of gold, copper or silver through the bark's natural openings.
Installation & care
Cork wallcoverings should be hung by an experienced wallcovering installer. Joins sit side by side as panels — a panelling effect is part of the finish, as natural cork does not pattern match. Care: dust lightly or use a very gentle light vacuum. Keep away from moisture and wet areas. Not washable.
Suitability & returns
Please ensure this product suits your location and wall based on the information on this page. Due to the custom nature of wallcoverings, we do not offer refunds, returns or exchanges for change of mind or incorrect choice — always purchase and review a sample first. If your order arrives damaged, contact us within 7 days and we will make it right.
Before you order
One project. One batch.
Cork is a natural bark, pressed and toned in production batches. Rolls from the same batch share the same tonal character; rolls from a later batch come from different bark and a new toning run, so an exact match to your walls can never be guaranteed. Order every roll for your project in a single order — including a spare roll if your installer recommends one — so every wall is hung from the same batch.
